St Michael’s The town of St Michaels offers a feast of maritime oriented foods, pleasures and scenes. It was an important seaport during the early 1800’s and remains as a favorite stopover for thousands of sail and power boats. It’s hard to decide which is more picturesque, the old port with its docks and boats or the shops, homes and public buildings along Talbot Street. St Michael’s is the focus of daytime, weekend and seasonal visitors who can never get enough of its gourmet restaurants, old-fashioned inns (bed and breakfast), hotels/resorts and a collection of specialty shops and galleries. For the active, there is a 27 hole golf course, sailing, miles of biking along country roads, museums and just plain “sight seeing”. Seafood is king here; St Michaels, Neavitt and Tilghman Island are the seafood centers of Talbot County. The St Michaels Seafood Festival, the annual crab fest and the oyster fest symbolize this important but diminishing industry and the centuries old tradition of Watermen. For the ultimate experience in boating and fishing, visit the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and marvel at the exhibits of old watercraft, crab and oyster harvesting waterfowling and the exciting history of our Chesapeake Bay. During the summer, St Michaels’ harbor is filled with sailing and
power boats which have traveled from the densely populated Western
Shore for a day or weekend visit. Even the chilly season has its
highlights; the annual St Michaels’
Christmas Celebration has
attracted thousands of participants for 17 years, a not-to-be-missed
event. St. Michaels Gallery [Click on photos for larger image] |
